Adaptive Plot Generation in Role-Playing Game
Vymazal, Jiří ; Grochol, David (referee) ; Hrbáček, Radek (advisor)
Generating a story, while trying to preserve at least some qualities of author-written narrative is a complex issue. In this thesis several currently existing systems and approaches are discussed. Then, a solution based on evolutionary computation is presented, and its traits shown on small-scale proof-of-concept scenario. Finally, this approach is compared againist existing solutions.
Narrative in Computer Games
Interactive Fiction with Use of Multimedia
Zenkovič, Lukáš ; Jeřábek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Vaňková, Petra (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on a type of computer games called interactive fiction and the multimedia that can be incorporated into them. The first part of the thesis focuses on the definition of interactive fictions and their different characteristics. These properties include story, interactivity, and multimedia. Next, interactive fiction is characterized in terms of its control and story structure. This type of computer game is also described with its possible use in education, either by teacher, or a student. The last part of this theses focuses on various developer tools which can be used to create this type of computer game.
Interactive cinematography and its main elements
Matoušek, Petr ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Novotný, David Jan (referee)
Interactive cinema is a relatively unexplored area of film and new media studies. This thesis summarizes the theories and models which relate to interactivity, interactive narrative and interactive cinema that have been developed so far, and defines the main elements which the interactive cinema consists of. It sets this area in the context of new media and their properties, such as interactivity and convergence. It also briefly deals with interactive cinema from the historical perspective. The thesis explains the basic methods of narrative and visual analysis, especially in the context of interactive cinema. These findings are then used in the analysis of three films with a nonlinear narrative structure using viewers interaction. These movies are set into the models and theories that were introduced in the first part of this thesis. Finally, the films are compared and confronted with the author's hypothesis, which is based on the relatively negative public acceptance of interactive cinema.
Digital Storytelling with the Emphasis on Interactie Narrative
Connelly Kohutová, Radka ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee) ; Sládek, Ondřej (referee)
New media have become an essential element of our everyday lives. They are also a platform for digital art. Through them, readers can encounter so-called 'electronic literature' as a developing cultural form, allowing to some extent, the the mutual influencing of media and genres. Firstly, all electronic literature needs to be consistently differentiated from electronic books, similarly the conversion of classical, analogue works into a digital form. This thesis deals with the definition of this specific area of literature, its reflection, including its historical anchoring. This work is necessarily based on an interdisciplinary approach, it draws on concepts from literary theory, however electronic literature cannot be viewed through its paradigms alone, as traditional definition frameworks and concepts cannot be fully applied in the new media environment. There is also emphasis upon media studies' theory, specifically studies of new media. Concurrently, the work deals with a specific form of narrative, the so- called 'interactive narrative', which is not found solely in the works of electronic literature, but it also has a wide scope. The final section presents the results of the author's research focused on readers' response to selected works of electronic literature with an interactive...

The rise of new media, occurring hand in hand with digitality, interactivity and hypertext, enriched not only our media understanding generally, but also introduced to us, as readers, a brand new genre--electronic literature. Approaching electronic literature with a previous knowledge of classic, print literature, readers are familiarized with completely new textual experiences via its genres, similarly as with a new approach to narrative. Interactive narrative has become one of the classic genres of electronic literature. Born in the 1970s and developed further in the 1980s within videogames and computer games, it has shifted to the electronic literature area. The submitted State Doctoral Thesis is dedicated to the phenomenon of interactive narrative as a genre of the electronic literature. Hereinafter, interactive narrative is introduced from the broader perspective, including its origin, development and specific forms.
